Games Workshop showed us a glimpse of the future – There are lots more Primaris Marines on the way…

This morning Games Workshop unloaded a TON of new pictures for the new boxed set. It’s a safe bet to assume this is only the beginning as well. For now, let’s go through the Primaris side of things and see if we can’t deduce what we can expect to see as 8th Edition progresses.

Intercessors

We all knew these new Primaris Space Marines were coming. We got the teaser for these guys not too long ago along with their unit stats:

Coming in units of 5, At least now we have a good look at what they are going to physically look like. The Intercessor Squads look like your basic “Meat-and-Potatoes” unit. They are also on 32mm bases in case you were wondering. Oh, and it’s also a safe bet to assume their stat line will be the basic stat line for the rest of these units as well…mostly.

Hellblaster Squad

The New Hellblaster Squad is exactly what it sounds like. It seems Guilliman is taking a page from the old “Legion Playbook” and now squads will come loaded up with all the same special weapons! And those aren’t regular Plasma Gun, either. No – those are going to be a new breed of gun. Will they be safer for the operator? Will they have longer range? Will they have variable shots? Also, will we be seeing a newer version of the Meltagun or Grav-gun version? Man I hope so!

This also brings up the question about The Primaris version of Devastators. Personally, that idea makes me down right giddy. Moving and firing Heavy Weapons only applies a -1 to hit. I can’t wait to see what crazy Heavy Weapons Games Workshop has planned for these Marines! 5 Heavy weapons to a squad? I hope so!

Interceptor Squad

Man when will Games Workshop stop ripping off Blizzard, right!? These guys are basically just Reapers from Starcraft II…I’m kidding. Mostly.

The new Inceptor Squads are rocking some cool new toys. They look like they’ve been hanging out with those Kharadron Overlord models! They are rocking the new Flight Stands (which are super cool, btw). And their new Jump Packs looks like some type of Exo-Suit that the regular MK. X Armor “steps” into. Why would GW ever put a Marine in armor into a bigger suit of armor? That’s just silly…What? They’ve done that before? Twice?! Oh…hmm.

Regardless, I’m very curious about the amount of firepower this unit will bring down. Their armaments are Twin-Assault Bolters. Sounds like a wall of lead will be flying towards their targets! I’m also wondering about their unit size as well as movement stats. I wonder if they will have the “fly” rule or something. They are clearly going to have whatever the new version of the Jump Pack rule will be.

Primaris Lieutenants

The boxed set is also coming with two new Lieutenant models. From the looks of their equipment, they will have a few different options. We saw what a Bolt Oistol can do as well as the Power Wword.

These guys are obviously characters so I would expect them to have slighly higher stats than the Intercessor Squad brothers. I’d wager higher leadership, a couple extra wounds and possibly higher WS and Attacks. I’m also VERY curious to see what the stats are on that Auto Bolt Rifle! I’m assuming it’s going to have the same range as the standard Bolt Rifle but with more shots. Could be fun.

Side note: Their Bolt Pistols might not be regular Bolt Pistols… Could be some fancy version with a -1 AP. Who knows! Also, I would mention that if these characters follow the same pattern as in AoS (which, I mean, c’mon it’s pretty obvious) then I would expect to see some type of bonus to the troops around them as well. Perhaps an Inspiring Presence or something.

Primaris Ancient

“How can you have an Ancient when all these Primaris Marines were JUST created?” Yeah, I hear you. But don’t forget, according to GW, the Primaris Enhancements can also be applied to “regular” marines too. Plus we gotta have a Banner-Bearer, right?

Whatever the case, it’s another safe bet to assume that the Ancients will provide your army with another type of benefit. Could be Leadership re-rolls for Morale, could be chapter specific things, too. I’m curious to see what they will do.

Captain in Gravis Armour

Say hello to the new “Terminator” Armor. Obviously this is a character so expect his stats to be pretty characterful. But that armor! I can’t wait to see Squads of new Gravis “Terminators” walking around the board. He’s taking a page out of Guilliman’s arsenal and going with an under-slung bolter of some time – possibly one of those fancy Assault Bolters.

I don’t know if that is an Iron Halo on his head or not, but I’d wager that Gravis Armor will also provide an Invulnerable save, too. And because it’s a Captain, expect to see some squad bonuses too.

Extrapolating this out – I’m wondering if we’re going to see some more of versions of this armor. If you look at the art work above, you can see a few more Marines in Gravis armor fighting. Will there be a close combat version? What about a heavy weapon platform? What is going to differentiate these new Gravis “Terminators” from the OTHER sets? I have no idea, but frankly I’m super excited to find out!

All of these characters look to be on 40mm (Terminator sized) bases as well.

A new edition is on the way and it looks like the Primaris Marines are going to have a lot of new toys they are bringing with them to the battlefield. Notice that we’ve really only seen the ranged options for these guys – anyone else wondering how long before we see Assault versions? Guess we’ll have to wait and see.

Didn’t GW mention that the Primaris Marines will also have some unique vehicles, too…
