Geekery: The First Dark Tower Trailer is Here
The first trailer is finally here – and Idris Elba’s Roland is at it’s center.
Yesterday Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey started the story…
Today we got the first look…
A pumped up version of Ennio Morricone’s pocket watch theme from For a Few Dollars More is used as backing music. A subtle call back to the Sergio Leone’s classic spaghetti westerns that inspired King to create Roland – who is definitely the focus here.
The movie is a mash of sequel and retelling of the 8 novels – not a direct translation, but it pulls from the source material. One of Roland’s seminal lines from the series – “I kill with my heart.” – features strongly here. It feels like director Nikolaj Arcel and the project’s writers understand and kept to the core of the universe.
The story drops us into the world of The Dark Tower via Jake Chambers – a kid that resides in our world that realizes that the stories of the gunslingers are real, and a massive battle against evil is about to take place. He meets Roland and the two set out to protect the tower from the Man in Black.
The Dark Tower hits theaters August 4th
