Wizkids has done prepainted miniatures before. Check out their icons of the realm or monstrous menageries for an example of the new grounds in quality they’ve found with prepainted miniatures–and earlier they released a handful of unpainted miniatures that were a step above that. After seeing how well that batch worked out, Wizkids and Wizards of the Coast have partnered once again to bring you a new round of Nolzur’s Marvelous Miniatures..

Holy cow, these are gorgeous. We had a chance to look at some of these in person, and there’s a level of detail to them that’s only hinted at in some of the render examples that they show. These minis have character–take a look at thisl barbarian. There’s a story there, you can tell right away where she’s from, how she fights, etc.

All the minis are like this. You get two versions of most of the heroes. They’re meant to represent your character leveling up. Sometimes it looks radical, other times, it just looks like your hero is using a different weapon–but even then, that doesn’t take away from the quality of the minis. And WizKids has been really stepping up their magic/translucent plastic game these days. There’s a thief with a cloud of shadows behind him, all the magic users have some kind of magical effect that will look all cool and glowy when painted up.

LEVEL UP PACKS

Level Up Packs include two highly detailed figures per pack, one standard and one advanced. Advanced characters are equipped with more armor, better weapons and upgrades than the standard characters. Both include many facets and intricate levels of detail for easy hand painting.

Standard characters have decent armor to protect them in battle, but the advanced characters feature improved, exciting and impressive battle armor!

MONSTER PACKS

Monster Packs contain 1-3 miniatures with different poses of a single monster – great for army building!

ITEM PACKS

Item Packs contain scenery and items for detailing adventures. Dozens of new beautifully crafted set pieces are planned for release later this year!
