Get into the Game with Free RPG Day – 2017
Tomorrow is Free RPG Day. Here’s a round-up of everything that you can find at a participating FLGS.
Free RPG Day is celebrating it’s tenth year this year! And just what is Free RPG Day, you might ask, eyes blinking in the light as you emerge from your subterranean fallout shelter, surprised that the world hasn’t been turned to apocalyptic cinder. Well, just put away that geiger counter and I’ll tell you, friend. Free RPG Day is a day to celebrate the hobby that brings us all together under the banner of adventure.
I know! I’m just as amazed as you are this hasn’t happened yet!
Whether you’re a fan of traditional fantasy RPGs, sci-fi RPGs, weird indie RPGs where you play as like the concept of sadness or something, or anything else in between, Free RPG day has got you covered. As the name implies, it’s a day when you can find an RPG, for free, from your Friendly Local Game Store. Like Free Comic Book Day–manufacturers and publishers in the gaming industry partner with stores to bring you some amazing products all for free.
So all you have to do is head over to their website and check out this year’s offerings–truly a bounty if you ask me. There are a few big names, like an exclusive Starfinder supplement entitled First Contact, which is meant to bridge the gap between Starfinder and Pathfinder. Want to use aliens in your dungeon crawl? This is the book that’s going to do it. Also on offer from Paizo, a Pathfinder Battles exclusive, Reepazo the bug zapper–AND, a special Pathfinder League Play boon that lets you replay an adventure from a selected list once again, as well as earning an exclusive First Contact boon.
Space aliens not quite your speed? What about answering the Riddle of Steel. Modiphius has their new Conan RPG Quickstarter rules available tomorrow, which contains everything you’ll need to crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and hear the lamentations of their women.
Space aliens way your thing? Well then check out the Numenera adventure: Spire of the Hunting Sound, which is sure to provide a harrowing experience for any adventurer in the 9th World.
Craving something with a little more of that Old School Cool? Well Goodman Games, purveyors of classic dungeon crawls, has you covered with the quickstart rules for their Dungeon Crawl Classics–hailed as one of the best OSR games out there right now, DCC recaptures the feeling of those classic adventures late at night with your friends gathered ’round the wooden table, and the demogorgon lurking nearby in the Upside Down.
Or go on a Ninja Crusade! There are many, many new experiences just waiting to be tried. And many stores are running special events for the day–check with your neighborhood FLGS, you might find people are running games or other related events! It’s a great way to get out there and be a part of the vast community that gaming comprises these days. Or at least to pick up some pretty cool swag that you can bring back to your table.
