40K: The Next Codexes Will Be…

I think we’ve cracked the code of Games Workshop’s next 5 Codexes. Let’s take a wild stab at what’s next!

We’re here at GenCon 2017 – it’s awesome btw – and we were at lunch and we all got to chatting about what we think the next codexes will be. We all know Death Guard are (probably) next. I mean, did you see that video? That’s a gimme! But it begs the question: Who’s after Death Guard? We’ve got some guesses based on what’s out so far…Here we go!

Next: Death Guard / Nurgle Daemons

These guys are the Anti-Posterboys for 8th! We’re all just waiting for them to get a new ‘dex and it’s gotta be any time now. We’re lumping the Nurgle Daemons in there too because they are also green and pus-filled. CSM didn’t get any new models but we all know the DG have some on the way – will Nurgle Daemons get some love? We hope so…but we’ve had our hearts broken before.

After That – Space Wolves

After the Death Guard/Nurgle Daemons, we figure the forces of the Imperium probably need some more help. The Space Wolves seem like a likely candidate. GW wants you to add Primaris Marines to their army and you know you want a new unit of Primaris Wolf Pelts (like Primaris Marines, but with wolf pelts…and bad attitudes).

Besides, it’s not like the Space Wolves are doing anything right now. They are probably just drinking ale and chilling out on Fenris after the events of Gathering Storm. I’m sure they don’t even remember what the Thousand Sons did at this point – it’s been months, right? Wait…I remember something about a dish called “Revenge” and how it likes the cold. Meh, it’s probably like ice cream or something.

After That – Thousands Sons

Speaking of the Thousand Sons, we’ve got to get a new Thousand Son’s codex! They would be a great fit to counter the Space Wolves who had just come out before them. The drama is already there and pretty much writes itself. We don’t even need to get more models for those armies – they just got Magnus and a ton of new Rubric Marine stuff! That means it should be a quick turn around for them.

After That: Blood Angels

Baal got pretty wrecked during the Great Rifting… They barely survived, but the Blood Angels did survive and got a helping hand from Khorne Guilliman in the form of some much needed reinforcements! Keeping in line with the alternating Good-guy/Bad-guy thing we have going they are the perfect army to slot in after the Thousand Sons. They will get a new type of Primaris called Bloodmaris Marines which will be similar to other Primaris units, but they will have fangs.

After That – Dark Angels

To help keep the balance of “Good Guy vs Bad Guy” we’re guessing the Dark Angels will be sometime after the Space Wolves – like they always are, amirite!? Plus they already sent in their advanced scouting party with those pesky Fallen in the Chaos Marine codex, so they got one foot in the door. These undecided Marines are basically traitors already! Maybe their Primarch will come back to lead them down the path they were already on before they switched sides. What was his name again? Alpharius? No, wait, that’s not right…it was Lion El’Lanister – and it’s time to pay some debts!

My point is that Chaos needs more marines to help fight the other marines – why not some new Dark Angel Dark Primaris units to help the cause! No, that name is silly and doesn’t start with an “I” – we have Intercessors and Inceptors. How about “Indecisives” ?! I think it’s got a good ring to it!

Bonus: Anything But Sisters of Battle

Nothing against Sisters of Battle, but when they show up, we know the current edition is almost over.
