Geekery: New Karate Kid Series Coming to YouTube
YouTube Red has picked up Cobra Kai – with some of the original cast.
According to the Hollywood Reporter Ralph Macchio and William Zabka are returning for a 10 episode series that will debut next year. There was a bidding war for the series between Netflix, Amazon, Hulu, AMC, and YouTube.
“Cobra Kai will be a true continuation of the original films — packed with comedy, heart and thrilling fight scenes. We can’t wait to reignite the LaRusso-Lawrence rivalry, and we’re thankful to our partners at YouTube Red, Sony Pictures Television and Overbrook for their shared enthusiasm in making our dream project a reality.”
The series picks up 30 years later and Johnny Lawrence has re-opened the Cobra Kai dojo, which opens up the rivalry between him and Daniel again. Each episode will be 30 minutes and it’s described as a… comedy. Josh Heald, Jon Hurwitz, and Hayden Schlossberg are behind the screen play, so if you’re a Harold and Kumar fan you’ll probably dig the new series.
