We here at BoLS enjoy all types of games – including family friendly ones. Kingdomino is one of such game that our friends at Dragon’s Lair Comics & Fantasy brought over to show off. It’s Dominos with a kingdom-building twist:
Kingdomino is really easy to get the hang of – it’s a pretty simple tile matching mechanic. The game is basically Dominos, but you are making a 5×5 kingdom. Every player starts with a basic starter tile and then next tile that they can place must match one of the open tiles. The tiles are all selected from a pool in the middle that players must claim in order.
Scoring is based on the tiles and the crowns on the tiles. The more connected tiles of the same type are multiplied by the number of crowns on them to get your score. If you have 5 tiles connected and they have 2 crowns on them, you get 10 points. The player with the most points at the end wins – that’s it!
The art is kid friendly and colorful and the game is really all-ages. If you’re looking for a game to play with younger gamers and you want to help them brush up on their math skills then Kingdomino is perfect for that. But just because this game is kid friendly, don’t think that it’s not cutthroat! The tile selection process is can get pretty intense because it can determine who get’s what. There is some strategy involved that keeps the adults playing interested, too.
Overall, Kingdomino is a simple game but it’s got a lot going for it – I’m not surprised it’s won awards in the EU. So if you’re looking for a fun, quick and family friendly game to play that the adults will enjoy too, then go check out Kingdomino!
Kingdomino
Dominoes with a kingdom building twist. Each turn, connect a new domino to your existing kingdom, making sure at least one of its sides connects to a matching terrain type already in play. The game mechanics for obtaining the tiles is clever: the order of who picks first depends on which tile was previously chosen. Make sure to secure tiles with crowns- these royal treasures help to multiply the worth of your kingdom at the end of the game! The game ends when each player has completed a 5×5 grid, and then points are counted based on number of connecting tiles and crowns.
