Masks of Nyarlathotep is a classic Call of Cthulhu adventure. It pits investigators against the myriad cults and machinations of the elder god Nyarlathotep, the sole member of the mythos to still walk the face of the earth. He is the messenger of the gods, the opener of the ways, and in Masks, the center of a plot to bring the elder gods to Earth once more.
It is a masterwork of an adventure, with players starting in New York, following on the trail of the Carlyle expedition, and from thence forth heading to London, Cairo, Kenya, and Shanghai–it is an open-ended race against the cults of the crawling chaos with five different “main scenarios” that are interwoven, though approachable at the players’ discretion. Even if you have never played Call of Cthulhu, it’s a masterclass in adventure design and worth checking out.
And now, this classic adventure is coming to the latest edition of Call of Cthulhu and also to Eldritch Horrors, both thanks to FFG.

In Eldritch Horror, investigators must roam the globe, battling the minions of the elder gods, traveling in search of artifacts and clues while monsters are unleashed upon the world. Masks of Nyarlathotep introduces a campaign mode to the game, meaning that players will need to win multiple games, and the choices made in one game carry over into the next.
Each investigator has their own personal story as well, shaping up as either rewards or consequences, depending on how the players succeed in the game. Victory might bring you once step closer to thwarting the crawling chaos, but defeat might also yield a deadly consequence.
Either way, your actions will shape the story as it unfolds. And it will take all of your cunning, and a little bit of luck to defeat the encroaching darkness.

Eldritch Horror: Masks of Nyarlathotep is an expansion for Eldritch Horror, a cooperative boardgame for one to eight players where intrepid investigators must traverse the globe in an attempt to thwart the cataclysmic rise of an otherworldly Ancient One. Strange cults are gathering strength in remote corners and bustling cities all over the world. Though they seem to worship different gods, the investigators have found a thread that runs throughout all of the cultists’ horrific rites.
