Xanathar’s Guide to Everything is out now – Come take a look at this awesome new tome of knowledge for D&D!

Xanathar, a megalomaniac beholder, has been documenting everything about the known planes of existence. That dose of condensed knowledge has been dropped in retail stores around the world and out friends at Dragon’s Lair Comics & Fantasy brought over both versions for us to look at:

We’ve talked about this book before – quite a bit actually. JarArr has been mulling through the contents and he loves it as much, if not more, than I do! There are lots of things to like about this book – from the new sub-classes, to the magic, to the amazingly help charts/tables/DM Tools, and down-right amazing magical items – this book has a TON of “flavor” for all you D&D fans out there.

One of my favorite things about this book is the humor that is sprinkled throughout it. If you’ve picked-up Volo’s Guide it’s got a similar “in universe” vibe to it. There are notes sprinkled through the book that are written from the perspective of Xanathar and they are great. At the same time, it’s packed full of helpful info for both players and DMs.

The book also comes in two covers – one is your typical D&D cover. The “blacked-out” cover has a different feel to it and is supposed to only be available in your FLGS. They have the same content inside and are actually the same price so it’s just a matter of personal preference. Personally, I’m a fan of the “blacked-out” version as I purchased the collectors edition of Volo’s Guide…but that’s just me!

Xanathar’s Guide also goes out for wide release on November 21st – but some partner stores got it this past weekend! So if you’re in a city with one of those participating stores you can snag your copy a week early.

Overall Xanathar’s Guide to Everything is one of the best expansions/supplements for D&D 5th edition. It’s not a campaign, but it’s going to make your NPC/PC character generation a LOT better, open a lot of character class options up, add a ton of new magic and items, and just make DMing a little bit easier as well. Players and DMs alike really should pick this one up – you’ll get a kick out of using it!

Xanathar’s Guide to Everything

The beholder Xanathar—Waterdeep’s most infamous crime lord—is known to hoard information on friend and foe alike. The beholder catalogs lore about adventurers and ponders methods to thwart them. Its twisted mind imagines that it can eventually record everything!

Okay, who ever worked on this at Wizards was having WAY too much fun on those Xanathar’s notes. Kudos to them!
