Geekery: ‘Annihilation’ Gets Stranger in Second Trailer
Go behind the shimmer, and see some of Area X’s dangerous inhabitants.
For those not in the loop: the story focuses on a team of four women are sent to Area X – which has been cut off from civilization. The laws of nature have been twisted there, and humans don’t seem to be able to survive there anymore. This team is not the first. Previous expeditions have been plagued with disappearances, murders, mental break downs, and suicides.
It’s based on Jeff VanderMeer’s Nubula Award winning novel of the same name, the first book in the Southern Reach trilogy. Director Alex Garland (Ex Machina) adapted it for the screen. It has an all star cast: Natalie Portman, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Gina Rodriguez, Tessa Thompson, Tuva Novotny, and Oscar Isaac.
