40K: 5 Cool Things I Learned From Codex Drukhari
Codex Drukhari is full of fascinating facts about everyone’s favorite murder elves. There’s a little bit of plot advancing, and a whole lot of Asdrubael Vect being himself in all his glory. Come take a look inside.
Having had a chance to sit down with Codex Drukhari, the first thing I came away with was: man, these space elves probably spend a lot of their time listening to Bauhaus, but would feel personally spoken to on a spiritual level if they listenend to Bonnie Tyler’s Total Eclipse of the Heart. That one’s a bonus factoid–but the lore has really been trucking along. It’s astoundingly current, referencing the recent Blackstone plot and the advent of the Custodes.
It’s really cool to see the story moving along as the various codices come out. So let’s take a look at five things I learned over summer vacation while reading Codex Drukhari:
Drukhari are kidnapping Custodes–and nobody knows why. They are presumably doing something, but it is not described what they are doing with them.
The Drukhari have constructed a simulacrum of the Golden Throne, only it’s covered in blood and gore. They let the Inquisitors come see it, report about it, and then they killed all of the Inquisitors. So they wanted news of it to get out. Its purpose and origin is unknown, but whatever it is, they want the Imperium to know.
The Drukhari are breeding and mutating Genestealer Cult hybrids so that they can harvest their body parts. But not for any kind of enhanced combat effectiveness. But rather they’re just harvesting them for beauty and aesthetic improvements.
Asdrubel Vect pulls a Huckleberry Finn and allows himself to be “assassinated” and attends his own wake. Of course being a dark eldar he also gathers all of his enemies, inviting them to come gloat over his dead body. And once they’re all gathered in a convenient location, he–with the help of the Harlequins–kill everyone at his funeral. Notably, he is not in the book.
Continuing many of the plot threads from Forgebane, the Dark Aeldar know all about the Blackstone and its anti-chaos properties. They are actively seeking out deposits (along with everyone else) hoping that they can use them to protect Commorragh from Chaos Incursions
How you pronounce Drukhari, Wych (like witch, or why-ch?), or Aeldari, is still unknown.
