AoS: Idoneth Deepkin – Warbeasts of the Deep
The Idoneth Deepkin utilize the mammoth monsters of the sea when they wage war. Today we’re getting a closer look at how they work and how the Deepkin bind these creatures to their service.
via Warhammer Community
The bonds that the Idoneth Deepkin share with their beasts is a difficult one. While the Stormcast Eternals and Fyreslayers may possess a deep connection with their draconic allies, the Idoneth Deepkin must magically enslave their bond-beasts using the Embailors, a specialised sect of the Isharann. In order for these magics to take hold, the creatures must be blinded, for without this measure they risk slipping their bonds and escaping in a murderous rampage. There are groups and even whole enclaves of Idoneth Deepkin who trawl the oceans for beasts to hunt and capture, with the Ghurish forces of Dhom-hain training particularly vicious specimens.
When it comes to the different Warbeasts utilized by the Deepkin, there are four types mentioned:
Fangmora Eel
Deepmares
Akhelian Allopexes
Akhelian Leviadon
The Akhelian Leviadon is considered the greatest of their warbeasts because its “something between an armoured battleship and a dragon.” And to prove it, Games Workshop showed off it’s stats:
This Warbeast packs a whale of attacks! And when you factor in it’s Jaws of Death ability, it’s going to one scary sea creature:
It’s going to be very interesting to see what type of army synergies you can muster to make that attack get some bonuses to the hit roll. I guess we’ll find out in a few more days when the Deepkin Battletome goes up for pre-order!
So far we’ve gotten a look at their basic front line troopers – the Namarti. Next we took a look at their Elite units – the Akhelians. We took a look at their Characters – the Isharann and we also got a quick preview of some of their rules. Now that we’ve gotten a look at their big Warbeasts I can’t help but wonder about how all these things will come together to form a cohesive list. We do know that if you make the Alkhelian King your General, then the Fangmora Eels become Battleline units – but what else can these fish-aelves do?
I can’t wait to find out!
