Geekery: Prepare for the Most Massive Battle in Game of Thrones
The final season is going to be huge. The GoT crew just finished off filming the largest battle scene in the show’s history – one that is going to dwarf Battle of the Bastards.
According to Watchers on the Wall, the production crew just wrapped 55 consecutive nights of filming with 500 extras in three locations across Northern Ireland. That’s more than double the amount of time it took to film the two battle sequences that are considered the series’ best.
Battle of the Bastards took 25 days…
Audiences will continue to see their favorite characters die in the final season. At the INTV conference Francesca Orsi, co-head of Drama Series Programming at HBO, recalled what it was like at the first read-through with the cast:
“[That] was a really powerful moment in our lives and our careers. None of the cast had received the scripts prior, and one by one they started to fall down to their deaths. By the end, the last few words on the final script, the tears just started falling down. Then there was applause that lasted 15 minutes.”
Given the number of characters that have been killed off in the last couple of seasons that’s not terribly surprising. It’s the who, how, and at whose hand that will have audiences tuning in.
What are your theories for the final season?
