Geekery: The Dinosaurs Are Coming to Eat You
You remember when the Pteranodons flew off the island at the end of Jurassic Park 3 and Grant says that they’re looking for new nesting grounds? That idea has come to roost in Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom.
Isla Nublar was left to the dinosaurs after the events in Jurassic World, but they’re about to experience an extinction-level event. The island’s dormant volcano is no longer dormant. Owen (Chris Pratt) and Claire (Bryce Dallas Howard spearhead a mission rescue some the prehistoric beasts. They get help, but it’s not what it seems.
It was inevitable that they would end up on the mainland. Not so much on the well-trained velociraptor that might be able to set explosive devices, but why not? This means we’re that much closer to a Dino Riders movie.
There’s something to be said about the sheer fun of monster smash up movies like Rampage (go see it already). They don’t take themselves seriously and market themselves as popcorn. The movie is goofy and outlandish, that’s part of it. I wouldn’t put Jurassic Park in that category, but I think that is where they’ve landed. Which leads to the question:
Have we have jumped the mosasaur yet?
Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom hits theaters June 22nd.
