Magic has been forever altered in the Age of Sigmar 2.0–come join us as we delve into the Malign Sorcery box and see what that means for Endless Spells, new Realm Lores, and more.

One of the defining traits about the new edition of the Age of Sigmar is magic. Arguably that’s one of the defining traits about any fantasy setting, since magic is traditionally the thing that sets it apart, but hey we’re not here to dissect genres and look at what makes them tick (at least in this article we’ll see what I can sneak past the man in the future). What we are here to talk about is Malign Sorcery and how the plague of undeath that Nagash unleashed has changed the nature of everything–even the lifespans of spells have been unnaturally altered, leading to the rise of Endless Spells seen here.

So first up, wow. These spells are huge–which makes sense. You can think of them almost like mobile terrain features, especially in the case of the Crystal Pallisade or the Suffocating Gravetide. But they move around the table and cause all kinds of havoc, but aren’t so devastating that they’ll ruin your day.

The Purple Sun is particularly impressive, owing both to its effects and its construction. In the video you can see how it’s broken up into pieces, it’s got its own second-death star like superstructure. Which means that every time you cast the spell you have even more reason to intone “that’s no moon.”

But on top of the Endless Spells in Malign Sorcery you also get a a bunch of new spells of the realms–each one of the Mortal Realms comes with six unique spells that Wizards fighting in a given Realm will know. The Core Book details a few, but Malign Sorcery adds six for every realm. Here’s a look at the spells for Aqshy

As you can see these add a lot to the game. One of the things that’s been missing is Magic–these realm lores are a welcome addition to the game. BUT THEN ALSO–each realm has six unique artifacts of power and magical weapons that you can give to an army that you decide is just from there. We will probably be taking a closer look at these in the coming days. So be ready.

Be sure and check back for more magic and mystery in the Mortal Realms.
