Games Workshop dropped the info on Soul War, which is Warhammer: Age of Sigmar 2.0 – and it’s pretty crazy already. But they weren’t done. There are a pair of new releases that are designed to take your games to the next level. Malign Sorcery and the General’s Handbook 2018!

via Warhammer Community

“Got a wizard in your army? Get this expansion, and they’ll have 13 new endless spells to play with, summoned sorceries with massive in-game effects. We’ve previewed a few of these over the past few weeks, but now, we can reveal the full list in all of its glory.”

That’s BONKERS. 13 new spells with the new endless spells mechanic – each with their own model and warscroll to accompany them. If you’re not playing with magic you better get ready for a new wave to shake-up your meta-game. That’s not all either.

“Inside the Malign Sorcery box, you’ll find the full Malign Sorcery supplement – your guide to magic in the Mortal Realms. This book takes a closer look at magical lore in the Age of Sigmar, and the arcane materials that accumulate in each realm, such as Aetherquartz and Cyclestone. There are pages of spectacular new art and background depicting the unbound living magic rampant across each of the realms. You’ll even find painting guides for many of the endless spells, to help you get them ready for your own games.”

That’s not all either! This supplement also contains expanded rules for Skirmish on the Realm’s Edge – a new way to play with a handful of models in some very unstable landscapes. Player command warbands who are fighting to hunt and bind wild spells. You’ll even be able to take your captured spells and expand your games of Path to Glory – this is a supplement that keeps on giving!

If that’s not enough for you this supplement also contains an additional 84 magical items to include in your larger games. Customize your forces and equip your heroes like never before in the Age of Sigmar! All of these items build upon the rules and lore in the core book, too. It’s a good time to dive in and discover what powers you can add to your own army.

And for the competitive scene, don’t worry – there are Pitched Battle profiles included as well so you’ll have the points you need for Matched Play. Additionally, if any player is using endless spells, there are two more Malign Sorcery battleplans you can use for your games.

This year’s General’s Handbook 2018 is another must-by for all Matched Play fans. You’ll get updated Pitched Battle Profiles for every single Warhammer Age of Sigmar model in the Mortal Realms! On top of that, you’ll get 12 more battleplans to diversify your games. Combine with the 6 from the Core Book and 2 from Malign Sorcery and you’re looking at 20 possible battleplans to throw down with!

Now, if you’re in to Open Play and Narrative Play, this book has a lot of stuff for you, too!

“Open play, as ever, remains a treat for those gamers who’re looking for fresh new ways to play Warhammer Age of Sigmar. A vastly expanded battleplan generator allows you to create new battleplans easily (no more wondering which one to choose), while Aerial Battles bring a whole new dimension to your games. Ever wanted to see how a wing of Prosecutors would fare against a pack of Tzaangor Skyfires and Enlightened on Discs of Tzeentch? This is a great way to find out. You can play overhead combat where the battle in the skies can violently affect the battlefield below, or stratospheric battles where aerial units rule the skies and those that cannot fly must perch atop eyries and buildings. A set of unique objectives and twists makes generating new Aerial Battles a breeze.”

Air battles?! Sign me up for that one! I want to take a crack at those rules for sure. And for Narrative Play, get ready for 43 more special rules you can tap to add a TON of effects to your games. We’re talking meteor showers, storms of magic, and tunnel networks folks – it’s can get as crazy as you want it to be! If you want to make the campaign of your dreams, you’ll be able to do just that.

Go Big Or Go Home

“Gathering of Might, meanwhile, is designed to let you play your biggest games ever – titanic and climatic clashes that define the Mortal Realms forever. With these rules, games between whole teams of players using hundreds of models are simple. Streamlined rules for deploying and fighting combats mean that you’ll be able to get through these games quickly, while legendary traits, artefacts, spells and gifts of the gods allow you to represent the incredible feats and legendary champions at the hearts of these conflicts.”

Oh my. Well this sounds like it could a fun afternoon of gaming. Time to tap a few buddies and bring out our collections. It’s time to play some BIG games.

Finally, the General’s Handbook also has new rules for all those armies that summon units to the board. In case you’re wondering who that impacts, here’s the full list:

  • Darkling Covens
  • Dispossessed
  • Free Peoples
  • Fyreslayers
  • Seraphon
  • Wanderers
  • Brayherds
  • Slaanesh
  • Slaves to Darkness
  • Skaven Pestilens
  • Skaven Skryre
  • Flesh-eater Courts
  • Ironjawz

If you have one of those armies and use summoning, you’re going to want to pick up this book!

It’s going to be a good month for Age of Sigmar!
