Geekery: Denzel Washington Isn’t Taking Any Prisoners in this ‘Equalizer’ Trailer
Robert McCall is back and he’s not in the mood to play nice. The government assassin with nerves of steel has moved on to a quiet civilian life – but it doesn’t last as he goes on a mission to avenge the death of a friend.
Another selection for traditional action movie fans comes out late next month, and it has a heaping dose of revenge. Washington is reprising his role from 2014’s minor hit based on the TV series. This time he’s teamed up with Antoine Fuqua again (they worked on Training Day together) to bring some street justice when a close friend is killed.
“I punish the guilty. If you’re lucky, they give you the opportunity to do the right thing… this ain’t one of those times.” And I’m thankful it’s not. I’m a big fan of old school action like this, with a direct point a to point b plot – well done fight scenes, explosions, a good car chase or two. They’re a great way to break up the CG heavy movies that dominate the landscape these days. Looks like we’ll be getting some quotable one liners in this, as well.
Denzel Washington has done his share of tough guy with steadfast morals roles in the past (Man on Fire came to mind during this trailer), so this is a shoe in. The cast also features Melissa Leo, Pedro Pascal, Ashton Sanders and Bill Pullman.
The Equalizer 2 hits theaters July 20th.
