Geekery: Nic Cage Fights an Evil Cult in Blood Soaked ‘Mandy’ Trailer

This movie looks totally insane in all the right ways if you’re into a mind trip along with your scares. Mandy could be the darkest, most twisted movie Nic Cage has ever done.
To prepare you a little before watching the mayhem, here’s the official synopsis…
Pacific Northwest. 1983 AD. Outsiders Red Miller and Mandy Bloom lead a loving and peaceful existence. When their pine-scented haven is savagely destroyed by a cult led by the sadistic Jeremiah Sand, Red is catapulted into a phantasmagoric journey filled with bloody vengeance and laced with fire.
The movie is helmed by Panos Coamatos, who brought us the retro-futuristic Beyond the Black Rainbow. Mandy looks to be just as drug soaked, and possibly even more surreal. Coamatos’ style reminds me a bit of Italian horror that was big in the 1970s – Argento, Giallo. Super trippy tales of demonic possession, secret witch cults, and insane visuals with plenty of gore and mood lighting. There’s some nods to the early 90s in there, too. It’s a style I whole heartedly welcome; found footage is getting really boring (The Devil’s Doorway might be an exception).
Mandy debuts in select theaters on September 14th.
