The Stormcast Battletome is here, and today, we’re taking you on a preview of the new units and rules you can find within.

That’s right folks, come with us on a journey through the Sacrosanct Chambers to find the new units in the Stormcast Battletome. This new tome adds a ton of stuff to the army–the Stormcasts now number 50 units all in all (though admittedly, some of those are the same hero character but on different mounts [but in the tome’s defense, being on a different mount does change some units in terms of magic {also this is a lot of nested parentheticals <is it? |yes, it is|>}]). But more than that, it adds new spells, Warscrolls, Stormhost abilities, and options so you can build the army you want ,to the playstyle you want, if what you want is a bunch of armored lightningfriends.

This reminds me a lot of the Space Marine Codex for 8th Edition, and not necessarily in the ways you’d think. Yeah the comparisons between Stormcasts and Space Marines are there, definitely there–we think the Battletome may be setting up some kind of eventual Chaos Stormcasts–but it reminds me a lot of the groundwork that Codex SM laid when it was released. It sets out a template that outlines what an army list should look like in Age of Sigmar 2.0.

It’s organized well, the traits, spells, artifacts, and all the other assorted traits you can run through are all there. And you can see where the particular ephemera for another army could easily be slotted in to this template. It’s an easy way to make sure that every army has what they need to feel fun in the new edition.

All in all, we’re pretty excited about how this is going to change the game. And I’m personally looking forward to seeing future Battletomes as they roll out.

What do you think of these new Eternals? What faction are you hoping to see next?
