Geekery: ‘Overlord’ is Tailor Made for ‘Wolfenstein’ Fans

This new horror movie from Bad Robot goes back in time. A group of American G.I.s are sent on a mission during World War II; they find something twisted and evil.
Paratroopers drop behind enemy lines on the eve of D-Day for a mysterious mission they’ve been told is crucial to the invasion. When they reach their target they find things none of them expected – a secret installation in which Nazi scientists are performing horrific experiments that are attempting to create a thousand year army.
Not the most original premise, but it looks like a good genre film. The monsters (zombies? super soldiers?) are creepy, and there looks like there will be a lot of gnarly action and ass kicking. Who doesn’t love a flame thrower turning mutants into ash?
The movie is directed by Julius Avery (Son of a Gun, Yardbird), with a script by Mark L. Smith (The Revenant). JJ Abrams – producer on the movie – assured folks at CinemaCon that this isn’t part of the Cloverfield franchise. Not everyone thinks he’s telling the truth. I’m hoping he is. I want a genre film, not another half baked alien movie.
Overlord hits theaters on November 9th. While you’re waiting I suggest watching Dead Snow. Or playing a little videogame classic:
