Forge World has three new FAQs for The Horus Heresy Age of Darkness setting. Get updates for the “red and black books” as well as for Drop Pods and The Talons of the Emperor!

Horus Heresy Fans rejoice – Games Workshop has a new set of FAQs and Errata for you to use in your Age of Darkness games. These three FAQs help to clean up some of the issues that have been brought to light for the game. They also help consolidate information for things like Drop Pods and the Talons of the Emperor in one easy to access location.

The Horus Heresy General Errata and FAQ is an exhaustive document covering the Horus Heresy Age of Darkness rulebook, the “red books” containing army lists and the “black books”, which detail stages of the Horus Heresy campaign and include rules for different Space Marine Legions and more.

This is a big document – at 16 Pages it covers quite a bit of ground. It has updates for several books including the core Age of Darkness Rulebook, The Legiones Astartes Book, Inferno and more. If you’ve got an Age of Darkness army chances are you’ve probably got some changes in this document.

The Horus Heresy Drop Pods Errata features rules for all Forge World Drop Pods, amending and clarifying their rules for use in the Age of Darkness.

The Drop Pod errata is a consolidation of the different type of Drop Pods. It’s a 6 page document that starts with the Standard Legion Drop Pod and goes from there. It includes the most current version of the Points, stats and any other special rules for the Drop Pods in the list below:

  • Legion Drop Pod
  • Legion Dreadnought Drop Pod
  • Anvillus Patternd Dreadclaw Drop Pod
  • Deathstorm Drop Pod
  • Legion Kharybdis Assault Claw

Finally, the Horus Heresy Custodes Errata focuses on the Legio Custodes appendix of the Talons of the Emperor army list, which can be found in The Horus Heresy Book 7: Inferno.

The Custodes Errata clocks in at 7 pages and covers all the typical things you’d expect. It clarifies rules like their Allegiances and Special Rules. It also covers some different Wargear options that are available to them and has points and rules for the following units:

  • Legion Custodes Shield Captain
  • Constantin Valdor
  • Legio Custodes Contemptor-Achillus Dreadnought
  • Legio Custodes Agamatus Jetbike Squadron
  • Legio Custodes Telemon Heavy Dreadnought

Overall, this is a pretty big undertaking for the Age of Darkness Rules. I’m glad to see this era of the game getting some attention however, I’m still skeptical as to what the future plans are for this version of the game. The rest of the 40k systems have moved on to 8th and beyond – this version is possibly the best version of 7th that’s still available and used. Will GW keep supporting this older system or will they bite the bullet and move it to 8th eventually? They have greatly reduced the model range that Forge World will support now and these FAQs could be a last hurrah for the rule set so they can put a “done” stamp on the system. Then again, there are still a few missing Primarchs an characters that could be done up. I guess time will tell…
