The venerable Y-Wing has a new model to go along with the new edition – this one’s been hitting the gym and has bulked up a bit. Plus it’s got a whole new set of cards, tokens and upgrades to dig through:
Being a work-horse of the Rebellion, the Y-Wing has a versatile armament that allows it to fill multiple combat roles. While it’s not the fastest ship around, it’s got a good payload and it’s tough enough to see the end of the mission. Capable of bringing the boom with turrets and other ordnance, in the right hands it’s a ship you don’t want to ignore.
The Y-Wing isn’t a flashy ship – it’s dial has as much “blue” as it does “red” so don’t expect to have a ton of tricks to pull you out of a bad position. However, it’s got 6 Hull and 2 shields so you’re going to want to lean into your own toughness and push through. The ship can also have a Gunner and a turret to help you pump out some extra shots. While we don’t have a version of the First Edition TLT, the new Ion Cannon Turret can be effective at damage and controlling your opponent.
It’s going to be interesting to see how the meta shakes out once the game launches in full September 13, 2018. The Y-Wing was a ship that could coast with it’s TLT and a little bit of help from a certain astromech droid. Now, players are going to have to up their game a bit of they want to be effective with the Y-Wing in Second Edition. It’s a solid ship and it’s got a cool looking new model – will that be enough to win the day and save the Rebellion? Time will tell!
