‘Ere we go! In Episode 39, Adam makes a call overseas to the TO and Judges of this years European Team Championships to discuss their approach to sportsmanship and fair play.

As I’ve continued down my path to become a grand tournament champion, and as you’ve been listening along, the topic of far play and ethics has come up quite a bit. We’ve already established that winning and sportsmanship are not mutually exclusive of one another, or at least that they don’t have to be. While I don’t want to belabor this topic too much, this has become somewhat of a parallel venture with my pursuit. That is, to establish that the long standing trope of tournament players all being Win At All Costs, ultra competitive jerks is not entirely, if not absolutely untrue. At every tournament, there is the potential for one or two of the outliers to exist, and ruin the fun for their opponents, and to a larger scale but lesser extent, the experience of all tournament goers and reputation of the event in and of itself. Yes, I’m here to win a Grand Tournament, but I also want to prove that it can be done, very publicly, the right way.

So when I read what I could only imagine to be a thunderous Scottish accent bellowing through the screen in the ITC Tournament Organizer Group on Facebook, phrases like, “Why? Because I don’t tolerate anything except friendly-competitiveness. No ifs, ands, buts, don’t like it? Don’t come.”

Or…

“Tough love boys, tough love.”

I knew this is someone I need to have a chat with..I hope you enjoy the show! If you have any ideas for show topics, advice, or comments – be sure to include them in the comment section below…
