AoS: Changes Ahead – New Endless Spell & ‘Nightvault’ Around The Corner
Warhammer Underworlds is getting a second season and there is a New Endless Spell coming – but what do these changes mean? GW maybe dropping some BIG clues – let’s take a look!
Warhammer Fest Europe was this weekend and there was some pretty big news going on. While the 40k side of things was pretty exciting I wanted to take a quick look at the Age of Sigmar side of the house as there were two announcements that I’m excited about. The first one has to do with Warhammer Underworlds.
Make it look like this, but ya know – good.
A New Challenger Approaches…?
Back in April, I wrote up an article wondering what was the next move for Warhammer Underworlds. Would they ditch the “Warhammer Underworlds” and keep the Shadespire or would they make the next expansion “Warhammer Underworlds: [Insert setting name here]” – well we got the answer to that. Warhammer Underworlds: Nightvault is coming and it’s being pitched as the second season of the game.
“You have survived the horrors of the Mirrored City
The Terror of the Nightvault awaits…”
It’s not much to go on but there are a few inferences you can make about it from the video. The first and most obvious is the change in color tone. We move away from the Green-tint of Undeath and now have this Pink/Purple infusion. Gee, I wonder what that could be a reference to…
Slaanesh locked way in a prison…or a Vault?
As I pointed out in April:
- The Daughters of Khaine lore also points to Slaanesh’s devotees getting hints at the Dark Prince’s location. The closer they get, the higher the odds of them stumbling on the Hidden Gloaming.
- The Hidden Gloaming is in the “inbetween” of the realms of Light and Shadow. Do you know where Shadespire is located? Also in the “inbetween” of the realms of Light and Shadow.
“Oh maybe it’s just a change of palette for the color.” Okay – sure, let’s go with that. Another strange change to the logo is the addition of the blowing “leaves” and ivy to the image. Anytime we’ve got plant imagery that should immediately key you into thinking it’s going to have something to do with the realm of life and the Sylvaneth. Does that mean we’ll be getting some Spirit-Plant Warbands? I sure hope so!
Why not both? Whatever the case it’s great to see Warhammer Underworlds is moving forward. It really is a great game and it’s pretty tightly designed and well balanced. If you haven’t played it since the launch the new warbands really do add a lot of variance to the games and it’s worth checking it out again.
New Endless Spell… But Who’s Casting It?
Another announcement from Warhammer Fest that caught my attention was that there is a new Endless Spell coming. Check this out!
Now, this could just be a new spell from either the Realm of Fire or Beasts – take your pick. Or, and this a pretty big long shot here, it could be a teaser of something entirely new coming our way. Maybe new is not the right word…let’s say “re-imagined” instead.
That’s right – we’re crossing our fingers and hoping against the odds that the Chaos Dwarves return! “Well actually…” Yeah, yeah, I know about the Legion of Azgorh. They have a free PDF from Forge World and their “army” is available online for purchase. The Chaos Dwarves aren’t really gone, but let’s be honest here, they aren’t really around either. They get the random mention in the lore occasionally. And they have even gotten random Model updates from Forge World. But I personally think it’s about time we got some Plastic Doom-Bulls back in action!
Chaos Dwarves have the Bull motif and are all about the flames. It’s really hard NOT to connect those dots. Or it could just be a new batch of Endless Spells on the way which would still be pretty neat.
Change are straight ahead for the Mortal Realms – What do you think of these signs and portents?
