AoS: Top 5 Reasons You Should Run Frost Sabres
When people think Beastclaw Raiders, most envision giant beasts like Thundertusks and Stonehorns or Ogors riding their Mournfang into battle. Often overlooked are their other units, like Frost Sabres. Here are five solid reasons one should consider adding them!
Frost Sabres are fanged cats comfortable in the cold and ordered around by Icebrow Hunters, and they’re better than you think! They’re seen as lowly, and they get scoffed at frequently in conversations about Beastclaw Raider warscrolls; but I’m here to tell you: give these kitties a chance!

1) Frost Sabres are CHEAP!
40 points get you two Frost Sabres, and they can even be your Battleline if you take your Icebrow Hunter as a General! Even if you don’t want a swarm of cats, these can serve as a cheap Battleline alternative to Mournfang Pack or Icefall Yhettees.
2) SKAL!
The most intriguing reason to take Frost Sabres is the Skal Battalion, which lets your deepstrike an Icebrow Hunter and his Sabre pals behind enemy lines. This is a potent effect that forces your opponent to stay near the back line or else give up their objectives to your Beastclaw.
3) They have Rend and hit harder than you would think.
Most people don’t even bother to look at Frost Sabres as an option, but these cats have rend! It doesn’t mean a lot if you’re attacking Nighthaunt or something else ethereal, but Sabres get three attacks a piece and have Rend -1 on those attacks. Great for taking out key characters your opponent is relying on keeping safe. Nothing is safe from ICE CATS!
4) They’re SNEAKY fast!
While they only move 9″ (not bad!), if they’re within 16″ of an Icebrow Hunter, they add 3″ to their charge. Which means you only need to roll a 6 or better to get your Skal-striking Sabres into units you popped up behind! Lock up your opponent’s units, and distract them from your Thundertusks coming at them with snowballs!
5) Army of Cats!
Not a tactical advantage (unless your opponent is scared of felines), but the cool factor of running a grip of Frost Sabres around the board biting the ankles of your foes is off the charts. Take a couple of behemoths, sure; but bring a few hunters, a gaggle of Sabres, and a couple of Skal Battalions and be a true hero on the table.
Frost Sabres come in Finecast from Games Workshop, but they’re very solid. You can paint them any colors you want, and fit them out with stripes, clan-markings, etc. to help them fit in with the rest of your Beastclaw Raiders force.
Sabres are underappreciated, but they certainly have a role in your mixed Destruction or Beastclaw Raiders force. Give them a shot and join the Ice Cat Revolution!
