Adeptus Titanicus: We Need An Imperial Knight Book
Games Workshop announced that the Creastus Knights are coming along with the new Warlord. But where will the rules for the knight be and what about all the OTHER Knight options? We need a Knight-house book for Adeptus Titanicus!
With the impeding arrival of the Cerastus Knight, I got to thinking about the direction the game of Adeptus Titanicus appears to be going. Again, I’ve talked about long term plans and where the game could go – but here we have evidence of the direction GW is currently taking the game. That direction is to go the way of the Knight-houses.
Now, I’m not opposed to adding more Knights to the game as they fill a unique role of flanking/harrassers and have the ability to actually get behind the big guys and cause some serious damage. If the Warlord is the Battleship then the Knights are Patrol boats or perhaps Frigates. The thing is GW has released quite a few Knight Kits and when you start adding in the Forge World variants, you can see quite an impressive line-up.
More Knights Approaching?
Looking at Forge World there are several Knight kits that could make the move over to Adeptus Titanicus. The Knight Cerastus as a chassis has two other variants: The Knight-Castigator and the Knight-Atrapos:
Mechanicum Cerastus Knight-Atrapos
Both of these knights are currently being produced by Forge World and I’m pretty sure they used the same technology (3D digital sculpting) to make them as the Knight-Lancers. Ideally, that means they could work the same magic on theses kits as the Lancer to re-scale them and produce them for Adeptus Titanicus.
On the other end of the “beef” spectrum, we also have the Acastus Knight Porphyrion. This Knight brings some down right scary firepower to the field and can make the larger Titans concerned about getting targeted by it. As far as a battlefield role, it’s more like an artillery piece.
Finally from Forge World, we also have the Questoris Knight Styrix and Magaera. These nights are very similar to the “regular” knights but they have very different weapon options and could be a great way to add some different firepower to the Knight units:
Back At Games Workshop…
That was just the handful of Knights that Forge World is currently producing. The next stop is the new plastic Knights that GW is making for 40k – and there is an entire codex of variants to choose from:
Now, we’re not going to list them all – you’ve probably seen them or at least are familiar with the different load-outs and options. Hey – they even have carapace weapon options, too! But really the one Knight Kit I think we should all be expecting is the new Dominus-class knights:
The Dominus-Class Knights bring a couple of unique weapons to the tablet and those could end-up being a lot of fun to use – provided you can get them in range. But the final Knight kit I would like to see would be the Armigers:
With two different types of Armigers, I think these would be the closest thing to infantry the game would have. They hit pretty hard – hard enough to make a Knight think twice and could be great for a screener unit or maybe even to threaten a Titan – provided they make it to a rear-arc.
So How About A Knight Book?
If Games Workshop wants to take the game of Adeptus Titanicus down the path of adding more Knights to the game then they definitely can. But for all those knight and their options, we kind of need a book to house all their rules and stats. I think Adeptus Titanicus could certainly use the unit variety but perhaps more importantly, I think that having a book with a TON of different Knight-Houses with their heraldry would be fantastic for the game, too.
Personally, I’ve been researching the different Knight-Houses to figure out which ones fought along side my chosen Titan Legion. The task has been pretty daunting! It would be great to have a book that listed the Titan Legions and their associated Knight-Houses. If GW made that, combined with a bunch of new Knights and their rules, then we’d be in business!
So many Knights, so little time – What do you think of the arrival of more Knights for Adeptus Titanicus? Do you think we’ll see even MORE knights come to the game?
