Find out how a group of hobbyist heroes are helping to bring cheer and much-needed relief in the wake of the California wildfires.

A local Warhammer Community is spreading around some holiday cheer in the wake of devastating wildfires. Headed up by the Independent Characters podcast crew, Warhammer players out of California have been reaching out to fans and hobbyists across the globe to try and collect donations to help bring some relief to those who’ve lost nearly everything in the fires. Read on to find out how you can help in an upcoming Hang Out and Paint stream.

You may or may not be aware of the recent fires that have swept through California destroying lives and property in one of the most serious disasters to affect the state in decades. Among the affected communities were many Warhammer fans who lost not only their homes but also their collections of Warhammer miniatures. As any of us would testify, our armies are some of our most prized possessions – careful collections amassed through the years, lovingly built and painted over thousands of hours. Certainly not as important as our homes (though we’re sure some of you might disagree!), but their loss would undoubtedly make a heartbreaking situation worse.

In the aftermath of the fire, a group of Californian Warhammer hobbyists, headed up by the Independent Characters podcast crew, have been coordinating donations from other Warhammer fans from around the world to replace the models lost in the fire.

And GW has been stepping up to hep as well, stating that they’ll be sending each of the affected players a brand new army–and arranging a special charity Twitch stream to help raise funds for the wider relief effort. As Carl Tuttle of Independent Characters has said, “If there is one thing I have seen in my time with the Warhammer hobby, it is that our members are incredibly generous and caring.”

So if you’re feeling generous or particularly caring, here’s one way you can help:

To help with the wider relief efforts, we’ll also be running a special “Hang Out and Paint For Charity” live show on our Twitch channel this coming January. On the show, members of the Warhammer Community team and the Warhammer painting studio will each be painting up a hero, selected by the affected hobbyists, to accompany their new army.

Now, here’s where we need your help: during the show, you’ll be able to contribute to the local California fire relief charity, with all Twitch Bits generated during the show going to help rebuild and support all the affected families.

The stream will happen early in January, so keep your eyes open for more news about that.
