Geekery: Spider-Ham, Spider-Ham Does Whatever a Ham Can
Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse has six spider people in it, some have had multiple movies and TV shows and others come from deeper into comic lore. In the newest preview one of the latter, Peter-Porker, takes center stage – with his own theme song.
This Peter has an odd origin story compared to his compatriots – he was a spider first, and came to be by being bitten by irradiated anthropomorphic pig named May Porker. He’s one of those Marvel oddities that fans took to after he appeared in a one off. Spider-Ham has teamed up with Captain Americat, and faced off against Ducktor Doom and Hogzilla; and has appeared in Secret Wars and Marvel Zombies.
“This is astounding! Am I a spider with the limitations of a pig? Or a pig with the proportionate strength and agility of a spider? I’ve become something greater than either spider or pig… I’ve become a Spider-Ham!“ – Peter Porker
Spider-Ham was revealed in the last trailer for the new movie – but he totally deserves his own clip.
The script was written by Phil Lord (The Lego Movie), so it will have plenty of all ages humor. It looks like a great feature length animated adaptation – the characters seem true to their comic book roots, and the animation looks fresh. I’m excited to see it.
Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse swings into theaters December 14.
