Commissar Severina Raine is a new Commissar who’s been put through the paces of Rachel Harrison’s short stories that take her through some of the highs and lows as life as an Imperial Commissar. You can get a good picture of not just what happens in the life of a Commissar in the 41st Millennium, but the hardships of it. How do you do your duty when you have formed bonds with the men and women in your squad? How would you survive on a world full of traitors if your transport is shot down in the midst of them? These questions and more are answered in the Severina Raine series of short stories.
In short, she’s a character with character and that makes her stories stand out amid the war-torn battlefields and high-powered heroes of the 41st Millennium. Harrison’s writing is top-notch, and she knows how to put her characters through punishing stories in a way that draws out the best (and worst) in them.
