40K: Warhammer Citadel Is Cooking Up Some Amazing Events
The Warhammer Citadel, the newest home for GW in the US, has some amazing events lined up–if you’re stateside, here’s why you might want to visit Grapevine in the next few months.
One of the best things about the Warhammer Citadel is that it’s a hub for all the goings on in the worlds of Warhammer. With tournaments, narrative play battles, painting contests, and more, the Citadel is quickly becoming a fantastic community hub for gamers around the country. And with GW backing them, you might even catch a sneak peek of something cool.
But another reason that a trip down to the Citadel is worth checking out is each of these events seems like it’ll build on future events happening at the Warhammer Citadel. So now’s your chance to get in on the ground floor of the continuity and canon being built roll by roll in Grapevine.
Let’s take a look.

Fire and Fury
Team up with a friend and wage war across three rounds of furious narrative play battles in the deadly wastes of Vigilus. All you need is a fully painted and battle-forged army each. Games will use the rules for Battlezone: Geothermal Eruption and The Wastes war zone from Imperium Nihilus: Vigilus Defiant, so prepare for danger… The outcome of your games will impact future Vigilus events at the Citadel – make your mark on this war-torn world!
Battle For the Glimmer Heap
Rumours of a great treasure hoard in Ghur known as the Glimmer Heap have spread across the realms. Glory-hungry champions form fragile alliances and descend on the region to seek their fortune. Team up with a fellow warlord – each of you using a 500-point Vanguard force – and fight fierce battles in this narrative play team event. It’s the start of an epic story, with the results determining future Warhammer Age of Sigmar narrative play events at the Citadel, so it’s your chance to shape the future of the Mortal Realms!
Loremaster’s Challenge
Show your love for all things Black Library with two days of events themed around the adrenaline-fuelled fiction of the worlds of Warhammer. Play fun scenarios for both Warhammer 40,000 and Warhammer Age of Sigmar based on Black Library novels, and take part in a challenging quiz that will test your knowledge of Warhammer fiction past and present.
Citadel Warlord Tournament Series
Across the 9th and 10th of March, take part in the Warlord series, tournaments for both Warhammer 40,000 and Warhammer Age of Sigmar specifically designed for the Warhammer Citadel.
The Warlord Tournament series is designed to appeal to every type of Warhammer hobbyist. Whether you like the strategic aspect of the games, forging the narrative, or painting the best-looking army on the table, the Warlord Tournament is for you. Participants will be able to take part in a series of three tournaments spread over the course of the year to claim the title of Ultimate Citadel Warlord!
Using a fully painted 2000-point Warhammer Age of Sigmar force, or 1500-point Warhammer 40,000 army, everyone who takes part will play five matched play games over the course of the weekend – as well as a load of fun activities, including a Café Trivia challenge, and much more. There’s even an exclusive swag bag for every participant!

Rusty Nurgling
The Citadel’s very own painting competition kicks off on March 16th. A reoccurring year-long contest, this is your chance to gain eternal painting glory – winners will have their names etched on a brass plate and placed on the base of the Rusty Nurgling trophy for all to admire! There are three categories for the contest, so get your brushes out and start painting. The categories are:
- Generals/Leaders/Warlords
- Monsters/Vehicles
- Battleline/Elites
Vigilus Kill Team Narrative
On March 16th and 17th, venture into the Megaborealis from the Imperium Nihilus: Vigilus Defiant campaign book in a narrative play team event that will cover both Kill Team and Warhammer 40,000. Bring a 150-point kill team (don’t forget to include a suitable commander!) and a 35-Power Level force themed around the armies on Vigilus, and take part in narrative games. Each will have an impact on the story of the Megaborealis within the Citadel and determine its fate.
