Adeptus Custodes PDF: Forge World Is Up To Something
The new Adeptus Custodes PDF opens up the 2018 codex with a giant amount of new units. But Forge World could be doing two things here. Which one is it?
Everyone is sinking their teeth into the big new beta PDF for the Forge World Adeptus Custodes units. We have been asking for this for a year now, and are ecstatic that it has finally arrived. It’s got everything from the giant Orion, to the Sagitarium Custodes – so overnight the 40K codex is now a full-fledged book with about 2-dozen units.
But two different things may be going on.
The 40K Centered Universe
These units have been out for years now and folks are understandably excited. It’s a GIANT injection of new units into the 40K meta and once the rules get locked down – it seems only a matter of time until a new official 40K book will be released.
I think this means that if Forge World is really 40K focussed at this time, we will soon see beta lists for the other currently 30K only things like the Mechanicum, and even Solar Auxillia (who can be set up as an elite standalone army, a la Scions, or just lumped into the Astra Militarum). If this is going on, it shouldn’t be long and I actually expect a rush job to get the Mechanium beta PDF out – to spike sales of all those sexy vehicles and Lords of War the Ad Mech players are already considering selling kidneys for.
The 30K Centered Universe
On the other hand – something else could be happening in plain sight. The beginning of transitioning all of 30K over to 8th Edition. I think with the extremely slow progress on new Horus Heresy book and rules releases from Forge World that something is obviously up.
If you were already planning on having to port all the existing 30K units and army lists to 8th-Edition – it would pretty darned easy to dump them into the 40K universe first as “betas” to get them balanced while you are working away on all the other units and lists. The endgame would be the same – a set of 30K softcover Index books to get everyone over to 8th, then move forward with new 30K books using the new system.
This isn’t a new concept and no one should be surprised by it. Forge World for its entire history has always stayed current with the current “live” edition of the games it makes models for, and I expect that in time, 30K will get the same treatment.
~Which do you think is most likely, or is the answer BOTH?
