The second season brings a battle of immortal gods to the modern world – among mortals. Allies are being gathered, and more gods are being brought in, along with their stories.

After the first season wrapped showrunners Bryan Fuller and Michael Green left after not being able to work out creative decisions with FremantleMedia. Gillian Anderson followed shortly after, as well as Kristin Chenoweth. This trailer should make fans hopeful, though. It looks like Gaiman and crew are continuing Fuller’s acid trip like visual style – and who knows this epic story more than its author? Mr. Wednesday (Ian McShane) and Shadow (Ricky Whittle) continue their journey in season two with a new cast of gods…

Chris Byrne (who worked on Hannibal with Fuller) is directing the first of the second season’s 8 episode run. I’m wondering they’ll try to wrap it given how the show has changed creative hands in only 2 seasons – or if Gaiman’s involvement will garner a third season. This story really needs room to play out. They’ve got a good amount of ground to cover after season one’s meandering plot (with gorgeous visuals). I’m hopeful that it’ll be as interesting and beautiful as the first season, and that we’ll be getting a proper wrap up.

American Gods Season 2 debuts on Starz March 10th.
