Geekery: Villeneuve’s ‘Dune’ Has Found its Paul Atreides & Baron Harkonnen
The first news is coming out of the new Dune adaptation – the cast is looking pretty fantastic so far. The BoLS staff writers have some *awesome* ideas for the rest.
Legendary Pictures picked up the rights to Frank Herbert’s Dune back in 2016, and chose director Denis Villeneuve (Arrival, Blade Runner: 2049) to lead the project. He, Eric Roth (The Insider, Munich), and Jon Spaihts (Doctor Strange) have been busy with the new adaptation that will span over two movies.
The big news coming out of the project right now is casting. So far these are the actors that have been confirmed, all of which look excellent and have the resumes to match…
Timothée Chalamet will be playing Paul Atreides
Rebecca Ferguson will be playing Lady Jessica Atreides
Dave Bautista will be playing Glossu Rabban (The Beast)
Stellan Skarsgård will be playing Baron Harkonnen
There are still plenty of characters left. This is one of those movies that has been dream/fan casted for ages – I’m betting some of y’all out there have some names you’d like to see on the list. Here are Adam, Larry, and J.R.‘s semi-ridiculous and quasi-serious picks for the rest of the cast:
- Gurney Halleck: Patrick Stewart
- Phase Four Guild Navigator: Jeff Goldblum
- Reverend Mother: Lena Headey
- Doctor Liet Kynes: Liam Neeson
- Chani: Zazie Beetz
- Stilgar: Idris Elba
- Thufir Hawat: Ewan McGregor
- Piter De Vries: Thomas Le Marquis
- Doctor Wellington Yueh: Oscar Isaac
- Duke Leto Atreides: Guillaume Canet
- Duncan Idaho: Ryan Gosling
- Padishah Emperor Shaddam IV: Charles Dance
- Princess Irulan: Sylvia Hoeks
- Shadout Mapes: Naomi Grossman
- Feyd Rautha: One of these guys… (Stellan Skarsgård’s kids)
