Geekery: ‘Dune’ Has an Official Release Date – and New Cast Members
Villeneuve’s pair of movies based on the Herbert classic are being set up as something truly epic. The team is filled with top notch talent, and the cast is stellar – and there are still roles to fill.
Legendary Pictures picked up the rights to Frank Herbert’s Dune back in 2016, and chose director Denis Villeneuve (Arrival, Blade Runner: 2049) to lead the project. He, Eric Roth (The Insider, Munich), and Jon Spaihts (Doctor Strange) have been busy with the new adaptation that will span over two movies. The Hollywood Reporter confirmed the release date of the first of the two movies over the weekend: November 20th, 2020 – 2D, 3D, and IMAX will release on the same day.
Production is set to start this spring. The director is bringing in Greig Fraser (Rogue One, Zero Dark Thirty) as director of photography. It’s going to be interesting to see where production design and score goes. There’s so much art to look back at from book covers and all of the art commissioned for Jodorowsky’s failed project, plus the iconic design and music of Lynch’s version.
