Star Wars: X-Wing – The Droid Fighter Preview
The Vulture-Class Droid Fighter is coming soon and it’s got some nasty tricks up it’s robotic sleeves.
When the Separatists were announced, we got a look at the new Droid fighter in the Servants of Strife Expansion. Well now the Vulture-class Droid fighter is getting it’s own stand alone expansion and it’s getting even more dirty tricks.
There is a clear distinction between two different classes of starfighters within Separatist Alliance squadrons. On the one hand, the faction’s leaders take to battle in powerful and heavily armored starfighters, such as the Belbullab-22 and Sith Infiltrator. On the other hand, you’ll find the weak droid starfighters that make up the vast majority of the Separatist forces. Expected to take the brunt of enemy fire, these droid fighters can play a number of roles in your squadron.
More Pilots
The Droid Fighters are getting a couple of new, cheaper options to run with in your squadrons.
Both of these ships will allow you to field them in a “swarm” formation. There is also another unique pilot option also coming along with this expansion:
This scouting drone allows you to give a friendly ship it’s calculate token. Basically functioning like an extra bank of calculate floating around, this could lead to some situations where you can feed those to the ships that need them the most.
New Tricks
Also coming with the expansion will be a couple of new upgrades unique to the Separatists.
Energy-Shell Charages ups the damage output for these cheap droids. Plus, it’s re-loadable so you can fire away! Next up we have the new Discord Missiles which seem pretty dirty.
What do those Buzz Droids Swarms do? This:
While they don’t do damage immediately they will start to do damage over time – this is the first real DoT ability we’ve seen in the game and it’s kind of cool! The swarm can be shot off by a friendly pilot – good thing there isn’t friendly fire in this game!
