Warhammer 40,000 needs to have some better Primarch Parity between the Traitors and the Loyalist Primarch. Here’s how we’d do it.

We’ve had three Primarchs running around 40k for a while now with Roboute Guilliman, Mortarion, and Magnus. With that “Lion” rumor floating around that means that the Dark Angel’s Primarch is on the way (if it pans out). We’ll have 4 Primarchs and, if you believe the cover-up, then we’ll have two loyalists and two traitors.  Anyhow, I don’t think that lines up in terms of parity.

Look, Mortarion picked a fight with the Ultramarines – that’s a fine pairing (for now) However, I think we can do better. The Magnus vs. Lion El’Jonson doesn’t quite fit. Sure they have some history, but you all know who would be a better pairing – Leman Russ. We know that Angron and Fulgrim are out floating around the Warp, too. And they have their Imperial Counters that could also be brought back with a little plot magic. So let’s do some thinking and see if we can’t come up with some better Primarch Parity!

#1 – Magnus vs. Leman Russ

Look, Forge World gets it – let’s make this happen in 40k, too! It’s the fight we all want to see and, to be honest, the Space Wolves could use a boost after what happened to Fenris (also thanks to Magnus and his sons). Bring Russ back and let’s get this cage match going!

#2 – Lion El’Jonson vs. Mortarion

Why this pair? Because Lion El’Jonson is a master strategist. According to the Lexicanum:

“[Jonson was] renowned for a level of strategic brilliance and martial prowess that was rivaled perhaps only by Horus.”

Mortarion, as Daemon Prince of Nurgle, is “gifted” with all manner of viruses and toxins – it’s almost like his body can adapt to whatever you throw at him. He’s also no strategic slouch either. The Death Guard and Mortarion would present the ultimate puzzle for the Lion and the Dark Angels to crack. Can the Death Guard survive base on sheer endurance or will the Lion’s plans crumble when the smash against the brick wall that is the Death Guard? That’s why I want to see them face off.

#3 – Guilliman vs. Fulgrim

You all DO remember who took Guilliman out of commission for 10,000 years, right? Yeah – Fulgrim did. He was the one who caused the poison wound to Guilliman that forced him to remain in stasis. After all that has happened, you can’t tell me that Robbie G. doesn’t want some payback. It’s the perfection of the Ultramarines vs. the perfection of the Emperor’s Children – that’s a throw down I’d LOVE to see happen.

#4 – Angron vs.???

Angron is fury incarnate. As a Daemon Prince of Khorne, he’s probably one of the most lethal combatants in close combat in the galaxy. Who’s going to go toe-to-toe with him? Another problem is that the other Primarchs are kinda…well, missing or dead. Sure, Russ is technically among that number as well, and if they can bring him back with the power of plot, why not the others.

To be fair, there are several Primarchs that we don’t have bodies for. Maybe they live. If only the Imperium had some ally out there that could manipulate souls back into bodies (I’m talking about the Ynnari).

ANYHOW, we do have a body for Sanguinius – and while he’s very much dead, the Blood Angels are also one of the few Space Marine Chapters who have a codex, too. Maybe GW leans into the whole Space Vampire thing, and they feed him some blood, and he comes back. Or perhaps the Ynnari summon his soul back – I don’t know.

Alternatively, where the heck is Vulkan?! He’s a freaking Eternal! Who better to take on an immortal killing machine like Angron than someone who can’t be killed. Plus it pits close combat vs. overwhelming flames. That would be a cool match-up, too.

This is just the tip of the iceberg folks. Again, we know that there are Primarchs that are dead but there is this thing called the Warp, and things get weird. Who knows what GW has planned and what who they could bring back.

What are some Primarch match-ups you’d like to see in 40k? Drop us a line in the comments!
