Warhammer Fest 2019: Here Comes The Apocalypse
Warhammer Fest 2019 is here and we’ve got a closer look at Apocalypse 40k!
We were warned about the impeding Apocalypse that is coming to 40k – it’s getting close and the details are becoming clearer…

The new Apocalypse brings grand strategy to your tabletop with an all-new gaming system designed to simulate the 41st Millennium’s most colossal conflicts. Detachments move in unison to perform devastating assaults, and as a Warmaster commanding an apocalyptic army, you’ll be making decisions that affect the lives of hundreds of your miniatures at a time.
There are a couple of BIG things with this release. First off – yep, you’re reading that right: Your Army Rules will be free online when the game launches! That’s HUGE! We were wondering how they would get all those rules out for every army day one because, if it were in print, that book would be massive. And it’s not in the box:
Inside the box you’ll find a 120-page Field Manual, 6 sheets of punch-outs, 300 Command Asset Cards and dice. We’ve also go some more hints at the actual game play too. Aside from the new movement trays that will help you quickly move your forces, we also learned this important bit:
“Damage is resolved at the end of the turn”
That’s a really massive shift in the rules. For one thing, that means the Alpha Strike is less necessary – and thus the fear of the Alpha Strike is toned down a bit. Your units will still be destroyed, however this means that they will get to shoot back! If you’ve ever played a game of Apocalypse then you know the fear of getting your big toys eliminated before they even get a chance to be used and this shift in rules is going to prevent that.
This game is going to be highly scalable as well. If you’ve got a Warhammer 40,000 army then you can bring that to Apocalypse as a Detachment and you’re good to go. It could be 1,000 points or 10,000 points – just gather your friends and square off with the upcoming Apocalypse rules and you’re all set.
The new Apocalypse is coming soon and it is sounding better and better. I was questioning how GW was planning on keeping the game moving, lean, and lethal so that you could play a full game in an evening. Now it’s starting to come into focus. If everything is going to get to shoot during the turn then that means things ARE going to die on both sides pretty quickly. I can’t wait!!!
Mass-battle System indeed! Apocalypse is coming soon…
