40K Apocalypse: Knight Faction Focus
It’s not just Imperial Knights under the microscope – it’s time for the Knights to take there moment with the latest Faction Focus!
Knights have become a presence in 40k and have stomped their way across the battlefield. In Apocalypse, both Imperial and Chaos Knights are going to case their long shadows on the tabletop. Today we’re getting a look at just how long that shadow will be in Apocalypse – get ready to go Knight-Knight!
The Imperial Knights are among the mightiest defenders of the Imperium – towering mechanised suits clad in adamantium armour and armed with devastating weaponry. Yet in the Dark Millenium, it’s not just the forces loyal to the Imperium that can call upon households of these mighty war machines…
One of the best things about Knights is that they are Super-heavy. That has a few special rules to go along with it. First up, they are subject to the Engines of War Special Rule:
They get to make both a shoot and a fight action when they receive an Aimed Fire or Advance Order – all other types of units can only do one or the other. The next special rule has to do with their demise. When Super-heavies are destroyed things can get interesting for all the units nearby:
This has the potential to be deadly to lots of units. 6″ might not sound like a big footprint, but that’s based off of the Knight’s base! That’s quite the area of effect on the tabletop. And speaking of deadly, all Knights larger than Armigers or the Chaos War Dogs have one more thing in common – they all have access to at least one weapon that has the Destroyer ability:
The Units
Knight Errant
Perhaps the most icon-looking Knight, the Knight Errant comes with two weapons with the Destroyer keyword standard – either a Thermal Cannon and your choice of a Reaper Chainsword or a Thunderstrike Gauntlet. That’s a potential 4 attacks and 2 shots that can stack-up to a total of 12 blast markers from just it’s two main weapons per activation.
Knight Valiant
Does anyone actually use this Dominus-class knight variant? Where’s the Castellan at GW? You know what, I’m just going to show off both datasheets and Reader – you decide which one YOU want to take to battle.
Sure that Thundercoil Harpoon is pretty deadly – but it’s range is 12″. Is that short range worth the damage output? I don’t want to let one get close to find out! Also, check out that Dual Plasma Core Explosion. A 12″ range from this model when these goes book is going to be massive thanks to it’s base.
Knight Despoiler
Hey, we did say Chaos Knights were getting in on this action too! The Knight Despoiler is the equivalent of the Questoris class and that means it’s super versatile when it comes to options. Check out this list:
Double-up on your favorite gun or keep the two close combat options – you can really tweak this Knight to the combat role you want!
Command Assets
Trail of Destruction will help to ensure you’re Questor Traitoris Knights will bring the pain with the ability to re-roll hit rolls and wound rolls for their attacks for the turn.
Rotate Ion Shields got a slight tweak from it’s 40k version – instead of increasing the save, it allows you to just flat out remove 1 blast marker from an Imperial Knight unit.
