AoS: Warcry – The Untamed Beasts Are Apex Predators
Games Workshop showcases another faction focus and this one is on the Untamed Beasts. Take a walk on the wild side!
Warcry is just around the corner and it’s really filling in a lot of the lore surrounding the followers of Chaos. Today, we’re taking a closer look at the Untamed Beasts – devotees of Chaos who hail from the Jagged Savannah of Ghur. Call them Barbarians. Call them Savages. Call them Wild – just don’t underestimate these predators in their natural habitat!
The Untamed Beasts Playstyle
Games Workshop lists off 3 big qualities of the Untamed Beasts: Fast, Unpredictable, and Deadly at any range.
Beast-like Speed – Described as “one of Warcry’s quickest warbands” if you’re looking for an aggressive playstyle that allows you to hunt down and pick-off enemies across the tabletop, then the Untamed Beasts might be for you! Speed kills and they have lots to spare.
Wild Fighters – The Untamed Beasts unpredictability comes from that speed and the flexibility to strike almost anywhere on the board. According to GW “even a lowly Plains-runner can wreak havoc with an enemy warband.”
No “Safe” Range – Able to threaten an opponent at any engagement range means there is no where for their prey to hide. “Part of this comes down to their speed, and part of it comes down to some excellent ranged attacks,” the combination of both makes them a versatile warband.
Key Fighters
First Fang
The First Fang is a great addition to your crew. Armed with a deadly Harpoon and equipped with a some handy abilities, he can give you an edge in a ranged confrontation. If you’re looking to pick-off stragglers or pepper tougher targets at a distance, the First Fang is your man.
Rocktusk Prowler
Described as “Tough, deadly and incredibly fast” what more would you want out of a member of your warband? Speed wise, this beast clocks in with an 8″ move – and in Warcry that is more than enough speed to get you into the fray quickly!
Warband Key Abilities
The Beastmaster ability is just generically useful as it allows you to nominate another fighter to get a bonus attack action.
Harpoon Snag is tailor made for that First Fang above. Not only is a bonus attack action, it forces the target to move as if they were jumping directly toward their attacker. Close the gap to bring the prey closer into your trap…
The Untamed Beasts are one of the first Warbands that will be available so if you’re interested in playing them, snag a copy of the Starter Box and prepare to go to war!
