Warcry is at hand. But simply hearing the call of Chaos is not enough–you’ve got to be able to understand what it’s saying. Here’s a handy guide!

Warcry is a fantastic game, and one of the things that’s really made an impression on it is that the game has a visual language all its own. With different Runemarks and other cues, the game conveys with very little text the core concepts about each fighter. Let’s take a look at the Warband Cards included with the starter box. First up the Untamed Beasts.

As you can see you’ll get a wide variety of models in this band, but they’ve all got that primitive/savage Chaos Marauder feel to them. Their models suggest some fast movement and hard-hitting damage, and when we check their cards, we see they live up to that image.

Your rocktusk prowler will be helping you apply the most pressure with its 8″ movement. Meanwhile your models are all weighing in around strength and toughness 4 (for the most part) giving you a solid baseline to play around.

The Iron Golems, on the other hand, provide a much more powerful punch.

Iron Golems live up to their slogan: We Create War. They are all master smiths, but for the most part they’re a slower army than the Untamed Beasts. They do have some models with a toughness of 5, however, which will help as Toughness is your only defensive stat in this game. But combo high wound counts with a few decently ranged (and devastating) melee attacks and you can start catching your opponent and bringing them down with some surprising range.

And there’s quite a number of 2/4, 2/5, and even a 4/8 weapon in there, so you’ll be dishing out quite a lot of damage, especially on the crits.

Untamed Beasts and Iron Golems are the first two Warbands, but you can find them all in the sets of Warband cards, available for pre-order now!
