Geekery: First Look at Netflix’s ‘The Witcher’ – Magic, Monsters, & Destiny
The first action-packed teaser reveals Eithné, Yennefer of Vengerberg, Tissaia de Vries, Queen Calanthe, Roach, and more.
From the perspective of someone that has not read the books or played the games, it looks like another classic fantasy story with action and intrigue. It has a GoT feel to it, but I do understand that these books were published first and a bunch of the similarities are happenstance. Cavill’s wig is still questionable. I’m sure folks who have been following Sapkowski’s – who was a consultant on the show – stories for years will have different viewpoints on it.
The producers made it clear at the SDCC panel that the series is based entirely on the books. They’ve also quashed any hopes that they’ll be adapting the games afterward- there’s plenty of material in the books. Showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich told The Wrap:
“Extreme long vision is no, we will not start adapting the games. I can only attack one season at a time, I’m so excited for this one, the rest kind of makes my mind explode right now. If someone says ‘what happens in Season 7,’ sure I have thoughts. Fingers crossed, we get there.”
Oh, and for those that know what this means: she also confirmed there’s a bathtub.
The Witcher will debut later this year on Netflix. You can watch the full panel here…
