Geekery: Seven of Nine and More Return in First ‘Picard’ Trailer
The series, which will debut early next year, brings Patrick Stewart and part of the TNG cast back together. See if you can figure out what the plot will be using the hints in the first trailer.
It’s been known for a while that the series happens after Picard has stepped away from Starfleet; retiring as an Admiral. He’s still dealing with the events in Star Trek: Nemesis and (thanks to the alternate timeline created in 2009’s Star Trek) the destruction of Romulus. We’re in a much-changed Alpha Quadrant.
This trailer shows some hints at the past and where he’s going – and with who. A new journey begins early next year…
While the influence of Nemesis is evident, there are a lot of subtle bits that call back to season 7 of TNG – the inclusion of the Borg, and the Captain Picard Day banner from episode 12 aka ‘The Pegasus’ that involves the Romulans. More hints lie in how casting for the new series overlaps with certain Trek plotlines…
- Jonathan Del Arco who played Hugh is on the cast list as an unlisted character
- Jonathan Frakes is on the cast list as William T. Riker
- Marina Sirtis is on the cast list as Deanna Troi
- Brent Spiner (as Data or B-4 isn’t clear just yet) is in the trailer
- Jeri Ryan as Seven of Nine is in the trailer
As far as I know, Seven of Nine didn’t meet Picard in any previous series or movie. We will have to see what, if any, tendrils they pull in from Voyager as more details are released. What’s for sure: lots of Borg and lots of Romulans.
ET spoke with the cast about the show, new and old characters, and what it’s like to work together again. The interviewer tries to pry some more plot details out of them… and their answers (and non-answers) may give some clues for long-time Trek fans. Take a look…
