Geekery: The Ultimate Collections for ‘Ultraman’ Fans Arrives this Fall
You can own the full run of the iconic Japanese series – plus all of the movies – that helped jumpstart a genre in two great collectors’ packages.
ULTRA Q is the first series from Tsuburaya Productions – headed by special effects director Eiji Tsuburaya (Godzilla, Rodan and Mothra). It’s a sci-fi drama that follows photographer Yuriko Edogawa (Hiroko Sakurai), and pilot and writer Jun Manjome (Kenji Sahara) as they investigate mysterious phenomena around Japan that often involve aliens and monsters. It was a smash hit.
That success let to more more series for the company like their first color series, ULTRAMAN. It tells the story of an alien from the Land of Light in Nebula M78 that lands on Earth while chasing down a space monster. He hits a jet piloted by Hayata, a member of a research agency (Science Special Search Party), as he crashes through the planet’s atmosphere. In order to save the pilot’s life the alien merges his life force with the human – vowing to fight for peace on Earth.
These new, remastered collections include nearly everything produced in the last fifty years – over 1,000 episodes of TV shows and twenty movies. Two packaging formats are being offered – a standard, paper sleeve and a limited edition tin that comes with a special art sleeve and a collector’s booklet (check out the limited edition Mothra for a better idea of what that looks like). Digital download will also be available via movieSPREE. Both versions will be available this October.
