Is the new Warcry Starter Set worth the price of admission? Let’s do the math and find out!

Warcry is now up for pre-order and the new starter set clocks in at $170 Retail. That said there are quite a lot of contents in the box. While we don’t have the exact pricing of all the items individually, based on the rest of the line-up, we can do some quick comparisons to see if we’re getting a discount for the starter set. Time to find out!

What’s In The Box

Note: If the item price has a ‘?’ price we are estimating the pricing as best we can based off of comparable products.

Warcry Core Book – $40

Iron Golem Warband with Cards – $50 (based on Cypher Lords Box)

Untamed Beast Warband with Cards – $50 (based on Cypher Lords Box)

Warcry Battleplan Cards$18

6 Furies with Cards – $30? (based on Warhammer Underworlds Warband pricing)

6 Raptors with Cards – $30? (based on Warhammer Underworlds Warbands pricing)

Warcry Terrain Set and Gaming Tokens – $90? (based on Corpsewrack Masoleum set)

Double-sided Gaming Board – $42? (based on Blood Bowl Pitches

Dice (set of 18) – $25? (based on GW Army Dice Sets)

Estimated Total MSRP:  $375

Starter Box Cost: $170

“That $357 seems a bit on the high side of the price range, especially based on the estimates – I don’t believe it’s that expensive for individual MSPR!” Okay, fair enough. Let’s do the math just based on what we know the price point of stuff in the box is really quick – which is basically the Book and the two Warbands.

Warcry Core Book – $40

Iron Golem Warband with Cards – $50 (based on Cypher Lords Box)

Untamed Beast Warband with Cards – $50 (based on Cypher Lords Box)

Warcry Battleplan Cards$18

Total MSRP: $158

That’s only a $12 difference. Is that “extra” $12 worth the “other” stuff in the box? The terrain alone is worth more than $12 based on GW pricing. While our estimated total might be higher, you can’t deny that the Furies, Raptors, and Terrain are more expensive than the $12 difference.

Are these Furies Worth $12? Based on GW Pricing – More than likely.

Should you pick-up the starter set? If you’re interested in Warcry and need terrain, you like one of the two warbands in the box, need a rule book, and want all the extras – yes, absolutely. If you don’t want the terrain, don’t like either warband, and don’t need the extras but still want to play – just get a rule book and wait for the warband you want. Or buy an $8 pack of cards for the army you already own and get the core book and you’re set. The buy in is actually really cheap if you just want to play with stuff you already own.

The Warcry Starter Set is stuffed with stuff. Will that appeal to everyone – no. But that doesn’t mean it’s not a bad value for the stuff in the box!
