Warhammer: The Most Iconic Units
What do you think of when someone mentions Warhammer? Probably one of these units!
Warhammer as a property has a vast array of miniatures and media associated with it. A once small scale company, Games Workshop and it’s Warhammer franchise has grown and expanded into a multi-million dollar cultural icon and has infiltrated gaming stores all over the globe. That said, when you think about the universe of Warhammer, there are definitely specific units that come to mind. These are the icons of Warhammer. Regardless of the specific system, when you say Warhammer, we bet these units are somewhere near the top of your mind.
Space Marines
Space Marines are the posterboys of Warhammer 40,000 and have arguably the most easily recognizable look in all of Warhammer. They have been a staple for 30 years and will continue to be for the foreseeable future. Sure, they might be Primaris’d – but they are still Space Marines, Defenders of Humanity. You can’t have Warhammer without dudes in blue power armor.
Chaos Warriors
There is a pantheon of named Chaos Warriors that just barely less iconic than Space Marines. From Slambo above, to Harry The Hammer, to even Archaon (old or new model), and beyond. Chaos Warriors from WHFB are the faceless and intimidating “bad guys” who fight for their own reasons. They were there at the beginning and will be there until the bitter end!
Great Unclean One
Chaos Daemons, in general, are pretty iconic within Warhammer. Outside of Warhammer lots of folks might also think of the Bloodthirster as an iconic unit – but we disagree on the grounds that the Bloodthirster is too similar to the Balrog. Sure, the Bloodthirster might have been around longer (model wise) with roots back in Hero Quest, but when you think about Chaos Daemons and the unique things they bring to the table, Nurgle should be at the top. The Great Unclean One is a gross model – I mean that in a good way. It’s an iconic unit for Chaos Daemons and you can’t have Warhammer without Chaos Daemons!
Stormcast Eternals
Again, literal posterboys for Warhammer: Age of Sigmar here as they are on all the posters and there story is infused into the Mortal Realms of Warhammer. Stormcast Eternals are a part of the very fabric of Warhammer now and there is no escaping that. Where GW takes them in the future, who knows – but Stormcasts will be there!
Land Raider
Of all the vehicles we could have gone with, we kept coming back to the Land Raider. There is something distinctly 40k and thus Warhammer about it. The Land Raider’s current kit is one of those vehicles everyone who played Warhammer probably owned at some point. Because you probably had Marines at some point – and this tank just seemed to end up in your collection. It’s a classic workhorse and that’s why it’s an iconic unit of Warhammer!
That’s all for our list – but we want to hear what units you think are the most Iconic Warhammer Units in the comments!
