40K: New Space Marine Unit Previews
Games Workshop shares a look at the new Space Marine Units coming with the updated Codex – check these out!
I hope you’re ready for the next batch of Space Marines to hit the tabletop because they are on the way with a vengence! The Adeptus Astartes are back with a new ‘dex and a bunch of new toys to play with.
Incursor Squad
A different take on the same multi-part kit that you can build the Infiltrators from, the Incursor Squads boast a few different tools for the task of bringing the Emperor’s Mercy upon their foes:
- Occulus bolt carbines – No cover saves
- Multi-spectrum arrays – prevent them from suffering any negative modifiers when using ranged weapons
- Smoke grenades
- Haywire mine – the first enemy unit to move within 3″ of the haywire mine risks suffering D3 mortal wounds (or D3+1 if it’s a Vehicle)
- Paired Combat Blades:
Impulsor
The new transport for the Primaris, this anti-grav tank has a dizzying array of firepower options. Furthermore, it has a transport capacity of 6. It also has a Shield Dome that provides a 4+ invulnerable save! Or you can swap the Shield Dome out for more offensive punch with either one of the following options:
- Ironhail skytalon array for anti-air firepower
- Bellicatus missile array for a choice of three missile warheads (frag, krak and Icarus)
But that’s not all, you can also opt for yet another option that has the ability to bring down an orbital strike:
It also has the Assault Vehicle rule so when you need to get out a take an objective, this is the transport for you:
Invictor Tactical Warsuit
Have you ever wanted a Dreadnought, but SNEAKY? Meet the Invictor Tactical Warsuit. Equipped with sound-dampening hardware, this is basically a Redemptor Dread that can be a part of the “sneaky-sneaky” parts of your army! And once it gets in there, it’s got some offensive punch. It comes standard with:
- Invictor fist – hard hitting close combat weapon
- Pistolised heavy bolter
And when GW says Pistolised, they mean it:
And then you can choose one of the following:
- Incendium cannon – a Flame throwering weapon of devastation
or
- Twin ironhail autocannon
Infiltrator Squad
The Infiltrator Squads are relatively new but even they got a nice rules tweak:
As long as you take a Phobos Lieutenant and/or Phobos Captain, you’ll get access to their respective abilities anywhere on the battlefield! Turns out this unit finally learned how to turn on their Comms during the battle!
Eliminator Squad
Okay, these guys got better. For starters, their weapons just got two pretty nice boosts:
“These deadly marksmen can now target enemy Characters with all three of their bolt sniper rifles’ ammo types (executioner, hyperfrag and mortis rounds), and their ammo profiles have been ramped up – for starters, they’re now all Strength 5!”

Yep, that’s right – characters you don’t have anywhere to hide from these Eliminators now! And now, we have an even better idea of what those new Las-Fusils are all about too:
Eliminators are certainly living up to the name. And that’s just the squad’s tricks. Now add the Sergeant in for good measure:
“The Guided Aim ability enables him to forgo his own shooting to add 1 to the hit and wound rolls of the Eliminators under his command”
And if you think “Well, I’m just going to assault them!” They have a solution for that:
Ouch.
Everyone Else
If you were concerned about the rest of the non-codex chapters, don’t worry – they are ALL getting access to this crazyness.

Combat Doctrines
Guess what’s back! Combat Doctrines are also returning to the codex. Older vets might remember these nasty tricks but here they are for everyone to see:
Just note that to use these doctrines, they “only” work with the Chapters that use the rules for Codex: Space Marines – that includes any successor Chapters you’ve created.
That’s a LOT of stuff! What do you think of this massive update for the Space Marines so far?
