Games Workshop has unveiled the Ossiarch Bonereapers and we await our new skeletal construct overlords!

Well folks, I’m in big trouble now. Games Workshop has answered one of my prayers to the miniature gods because The Ossiarch Bonereapers are coming in October. Looks like this writer is going to be starting a new army soon enough. Let me back up a bit and share my story.

Back when the Old World was still …the World, I had always wanted to play an undead army. Unfortunately, I wasn’t really pulled to the Wet-Undead of Vampire Counts (too many zombies models to paint) and I wasn’t attracted to the Dry-Undead either (Mummies – nah, I’m good). At the same time, Death always seemed like a cool army – I liked the lore, and some of the models were pretty darn sweet. Then a little movie came along from some guy named Peter Jackson based on some books by J.R.R. Tolkien. You might of heard of it: The Lord of the Rings Trilogy. Well, in the third part of that series, there was the Army of the Dead. It was an entire army of ghosts and it was AWESOME. That was one of my favorite points in the movies actually – watching the army of the dead sweep across the battlefield and just *END* the fight.

Games Workshop made a game based on those movies/books. And they made an Army of the Dead. I wanted to play that army – I wanted an army of Ghosts…and eventually that came to pass with the Nighthaunt army. It was like GW tapped into exactly what I wanted and I knew I had to make that army, finally, for Age of Sigmar.

I’ve added on since then.

Well, my Nighthaunt army has been a ton of fun – and I still plan on playing it. Heck, I’m still adding on it because Death is such a cool faction. So what does this have to do with the Bonereapers? Well, there was another type of Undead Army that I’ve been saying I wish existed since the End Times: I want a Bone-Construct Army. The inspiration this concept, for me, was the Morghasts because they were unlike any other Undead at the time. They were created from the bone of others and powered by Death Magic.

Well – it just got announced! And I’m going all in with this one. I’m going to play with my Ghosts and my Bone-Constructs and it’s going to be a blast. I have no idea what any of this stuff does on the tabletop and frankly, I don’t even care. This army has be irrationally excited and I can’t wait to build, paint, and play with it.

Is it over the top? Maybe. Campy? Sure. Cartoony? In that awesome 80’s-Masters-of-the-Universe way! Do those skeletons have exoskeletons? I guess so! Are those Tyranid Arms? I’ve already got lots of those. What’s King Xerxes from 300 doing here? Leading his army to battle, duh! If you don’t like this army that’s cool – but I’m digging it. GW somehow took the undead skeletons and made them beefy. Did they need noses? No. Do they have them? Some of them, yes. I still don’t care because this army concept is what I’ve been waiting on for almost as long as that new Sister of Battle Army. And I’m getting my dream-come-true before them!

This. I wanted THIS and it’s coming soon.

For me, the best part of all this (besides how excited I am for this army) is that the Ossiarch Bonereapers are part of the Death faction – which means my Ghosts will be able to play nicely with them. I feel a little bad for Destruction, because they could certainly use some more attention. Gloomspite Gitz are great and the Ironjaws were a step in the right direction. But they are getting stuff soon, too. But come October, it’s going to be all Death, all the time for this writer!

I knew those weren’t regular horses!

This army has really inspired me to get my current projects done. I’ve recently completed a 2k Nighthaunt army but I’ve got the bug and have been adding more units. My backlog is just big enough to where I don’t feel swamped yet. My new goal is to build and paint any remaining models (I’ve got a Nagash on the way, too) before October 1st. I don’t know when the Pre-order for the Bonereapers will be live, but I know that if I can hit that deadline, I’ll be ready to roll when the new army arrives. Wish me luck!

The Bone-Tithe is coming due – will you pay the tithe or will you serve?
