Geekery: Star Wars News from D23 – Obi-Wan Kenobi, Clone Wars, and Episode IX
Star Wars got a bunch of attention at the fan event – including new footage from Rise of Skywalker and some major Disney+ show announcements.
I’ll start with the Disney+ announcements. We now have a release date for the next installment of the Clone Wars – February of next year. The Cassian Andor series is still a go with Diego Luna and Alan Tudyk on board. No release date on that one; hoping to get more information when the streaming service rolls out in November.
There were some rumors about a new Obi-Wan Kenobi series drifting around the net a few weeks back. It has been confirmed that Ewan McGregor will be reprising his role as the Jedi Master for a new series. The scripts are completed, and they start shooting next year. No word on directors or supporting cast just yet.
In case you missed it on Saturday – here’s the first Madalorian trailer.
Attendees got to see more footage from Rise of Skywalker, which was released for the rest of us this morning. It features a look back at the arc of the Skywalker linage, a ton of star destroyers, a red-eyed C-3PO, and epic dual on a wrecked ship, and a really weird double lightsaber.
One thing is for sure – I can’t tell what the heck is going on in this movie beyond which characters are in it. Not sure if I should applaud the folks cutting the trailers for preventing spoilers, or be annoyed that it seems they’re trying to sell it on some obtuse clips and the fact that it’s a Star Wars movie. We will see if this one fares better at the box office and with fans than The Last Jedi when it’s released.
Star Wars: Rise of Skywalker hits theaters December 20th.
