Geekery: Venture into a Haunted House with Real Monsters in ‘Haunt’

It’s getting to be that time of year. Dreams of cooler weather, changing leaves, and trick or treating are upon us – and that means it’s time to start previewing Halloween themed horror movies. This one is from the minds behind A Quiet Place, and modern horror producer Eli Roth. A group of friends find an ‘extreme’ haunted house that promises real scares – they find those and some real monsters.
It’s another take on a classic sub-genre, and it looks like it has some decent turns and scares. I think it’ll be streaming over the theater for me, though. If it’s the same for you it’s an easy one to build a theme night around. Pick a few more, gather some friends and snacks, and turn out the lights. Some personal suggestions:
- Poltergeist
- The Haunting (1963)
- The Changeling
- The House on Haunted Hill (1959)
- The Uninvited
- Hausu
- The Sentinel
- The Legend of Hell House
- The Amityville Horror (1979)
Feel free to add your favorite haunted house movies in the comments.
Haunt hits theaters and VOD September 13th.
