With more Space Marine Chapter Supplements on the way, we’re taking a look back at some of the old Relics of the Iron Hands to see what could come back.

Games Workshop has teased us with four more Space Marine Chapter Supplements – we took some guesses at what those books could be, and the rumor mill is churning out its own spin on things. So with that in mind, we’re digging through some older supplements and trying to piece together what GW could bring back for those chapters. Today, we’re focusing on the Iron Hands and their old relics from Angels of Death. It’s a quick look at the Gifts of the Gorgon!

The Mindforge Stave

This relic replaced a Force Weapon and really juiced it up. This could easily be transposed over to 8th edition as a Librarian Force Weapon Upgrade. We’ll see if GW tweaks those special rules to give it more of a boost in close combat – or perhaps some other benefits…

The Axe of Medusa

Again, another weapon that could easily be transferred over from this supplement to the next. The stats could use an update, and the Severing Strike ability could still work just fine. It really just needs an update on the damage stat, and it’s ready to roll!

The Ironstone

This one is a little bit tricky – it really depends on the special rule “It Will Not Die” rules-wise for it to work. Now, the Iron Hands Chapter Tactic “The Flesh Is Weak” is similar enough that you could shift things around for this Relic to still function. However, vehicles no longer suffer Weapon Destroyed or Immobilized results…so yeah, it might be time to take this one back to the drawing board.

Betrayer’s Bane

Combi-weapons got a bit of a tweak in 8th with the ability to fire both barrels.  This weapon could still function, but in the Space Marine Codex, Master Crafted is +1 Damage – which could work pretty well! A 2 damage combi-bolter that also has a +1 damage Melta barrel? Tempting…

The Gorgon’s Chain

Okay, this one was a crowd pleaser back in 7th – unless you were on the receiving end. It absolutely needs to come back, and it needs to have a crazy chart again! Not sure how all that would work, but the design team at GW could work that out! #BringBackTheGorgonsChain

The Tempered Helm

A Helm that extended out Auras could be pretty mean in modern 40k. Think about this on a Captain or Lieutenant – if it made their Aura abilities twice as long (12″ vs. 6″) that would be a pretty huge deal! This could be the best of the bunch in 8th…

Again, these relics are just a look back at the past of the Iron Hands – who knows what they will get when (and if) they get their own Supplement. All we know is that they will have access to their own batch of Warlords Traits, Stratagems, Relics, and other rules in their own book!

How would you tweak these relics to make them function in 8th edition?
